While it’s not a digital financial tool, one app that I think has a great onboarding flow is Gyroscope, a health/productivity app for iPhone. It leverages the concept of reciprocity, and allows the user to take a “tour” and understand the features it has to offer before asking them to log in. For each feature in the tour, they offer a quick “System 1” explanation, but also a button to dive deeper if you’re interested in learning more (System 2). And then, when the flow gets back around to login, the app explains why logging in with Facebook is helpful, but still allows the user to create an unlinked account.
